Have you heard of nofollow? I bet most of you out there have learn about this quite some time ago. Personally, the Nofollow tag is something that I don’t really like.
Nofollow was initiated by Google in 2005 and was widely adopted by others in what was the first major cooperation with MSN and Yahoo!. This additional attribute to the link tag was introduced to fight spam. So what it exactly do?
In short, nofollow is a link relationship which one can add to any hyperlink on a Web site. A normal link would look like this:
<a href="http://www.crispnetworks.com">CrispNetworks</a>
When nofollow is added, it looks much like this:
<a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.crispnetworks.com">CrispNetworks</a>
The rel="nofollow" essentially informs the search engines not to include this link as an inbound link to the target web site. It does not prevent the search engine from following the link, as it seems to imply. The search engine is still free to follow the link and index the content on the target web site, but for the purposes of counting inbound links (and PageRank) the link should not be factored into that calculation.
The initially intended effect of this is that any link containing rel="nofollow" will allow both users and search engines to reach the site, but the existence of the link will not increase the ranking of the site in participating search engines. Aside from Google, so far MSN and Yahoo! are participating. Others may be as well.
This is to prevent Link Spam in comments or in order words – comments spam. All blogs nowadays have built-in nofollow attributes built into the comments.

As a result of rel="nofollow" attribute, real or genuine blog commentors do not get good back links. I have to say NO NO to rel="nofollow. Nofollow doesn’t stop spam! It only helps the search engines but not bloggers.
Therefore, here’s something that I have been doing since around 3 weeks ago. I’ve turned off rel="nofollow". Hey Hey! I’m showering you guys with backlinks when you comment on my blog. Isn’t that great?
Now here’s what you’ve got to do if you wanna share some links love with your beloved readers. First, remove rel="nofollow" by install this nofollow plugin and activating it for those who are using wordpress. Secondly put this logo on your sidebar to show you support!
By the way, have you commented on my blog?
seems like more n more blogs are adopting this u comment i follow thing….
Yes, that’s very true. Bobby are you sharing the links love too?
Soon Google will block all comment links from blog. They change their algorithm often. If everyone is doing this, Google will change their algorithm
Actually I’m aware of that. Beside Google blocking comment links from blog, what are the other effect?
installed!
Great!
Very interesting. I had no idea what nofollow was until I read this. Thanks.
Welcome to the club. The no follow campaign is quickly growing. It won’t be long before Wordpress incorporates a plugin that isn’t activated, but is optional in it’s installation.
You mean Wordpress would have that nofollow plugin installed by default?
Hi thanks for this I had never heard of it.
Hi, i just download this plugin and will install it tonight. I hope this plugin will help my readers and also myself.
May be I am too late for comment. But just wanted to let you know that I have also installed the dofollow plugin, but I have gone for the Lucy Link Love, which seems to be a tter option to fight comment spam.
