Make connections with comments in 5 minutes
Since I started blogging seriously, I’ve become a fan of commenting on others blogs. This is one of the way for me to engage with others’ discussions and also get myself noticed. Hence, more and more connections are make between my blogs and other blogs. It also get me to make friends personally with bloggers.
Besides being more connected, my blog is getting a lot more interactive as readers post their comments on the post written. This certain help to increase traffic and also value add to the readers.
How to get more comments in 5 Minutes

- Comment Plugins - Install a “subscribe to comments†plugin, such as this one for Wordpress. This helps to notify commenters that a reply has been posted via email and allows them to continue the discussion.
- Good Topic - See what subjects or discussions have worked in the past, get to know what your visitors like to talk about
- Hold back - Don’t put everything possible into your post. Make it great but leave some room for others to pick up the conversation.
- Friendly and approachable - Be friendly and approachable. Make it known that comments are welcome. Change your template from the default “no comments†to something more inviting.
- Invitation for question - Most important; ask! Sometimes people wait for permission, you don’t get if you don’t ask.
Once you start the ball rolling it gets easier, people remember your blog as a place to hang out and comments beget comments.

I really need to install that “subscribe on comments” plugin. Thanks for the tip
Yes
!
It does help you to manage your readers
i’ve to admit subscribe to comments via email is definitely a great feature … too bad it’s only applicable to wordpress … if this little thing can be done within blogger platform, most of the people out there will just love it …
but that’s just me … cheers …
However, I think there have been lots of guides available already. Try to do some searches.
Very cool. I posted a similar list a few weeks ago to my site (The link is above). I guess great minds think alike!
Ohh…i see. Anyway, it should be complimentary. hehe..
Thanks for sharing. Holding back is a very good idea.
I just visited your blog and I like what you’re doing. Keep it up.
Hi Tommy. No problem! By the way, I really love your theme. I hope you don’t mind, but I want to change my 2 column blog to a 3 column blog like yours.
Cheers! Keep up the good work.
to get the theme if you like it.
Wow! Thanks a lot!
The theme looks great! I guess, I’m going to be busy for the next few days editing it to suite my preferences. Cheers.
migrating from blogger to wordpress shouldn’t be a problem at all as there’re tons of tutorial out there …
the most difficult part is in making the decision to switch, you need to think of your own domain name, hosting company and the losing the PR when you start all over again …
i’ve been thinking about this for a while …
If there ever was a post designed to beget comments, this was one!
I’ve been following your advice, posting comments and being friendly on my site, as well as specifically asking for comments. I hope some of it pays off!
Transferring from one platform to another wouldn`t be a problem if you have your own domain, like this blog ending with .
The problem is when your blog domain is a subdomain like mine one.. but at the moment I`m more or less satisfied with Blogger
yeah…you are right. Transferring must be considered carefully.
Great idea and nice blog. I’m pretty ill-efficient with such things so I’ll bookmark you for a source of info. My blog is http://joe.booklocker.com
Thanks in advance. I’m sure you’ll get more out of this blog.

I agree, commenting is a great way to build your network. Nice blog by the way, thanks for the info!
Tom
You’re most welcome. Want more tips? Do come back for more and also add me in your RSS read. Cheers.
“Tricky” idea bro, but I love it
Good good.
Yup, taking the time to actually read someone’s post, then taking a little bit more time to share your reaction to it, wanting to add your two cents’ worth, etc, certainly makes a difference. For the blog associated with my Willow persona, I don’t expect too many comments, however, since the posts are rather emo, LoL!
p/s> in relation to Stock Tube’s comment… it might not be as obvious, or perhaps not immediately provided within all templates, but I know on my blogger blog one can subscribe to RSS feed of individual posts’ comments.
Wordpress comment can be subscribe through RSS feed too.
Interesting way of doing it … but it should work if it dont put people off
Yeah, just like I mentioned. Should be in a friendly way.
I just had to comment on this blog entry on commenting. Hey, groovy site. I’m adding you to my faves. Check out my site at http://careysaysums.squarespace.com and feel free to leave a comment. Cheers.
Thank you very much. Commented on your blog too. Cheers.
You will have more comments especially after you removed the no-follow tag for your comments.
Yeah…you are right.
I’m a supporter for the U Comment I Follow Movement by removing the no-follow tag.
Did you remove yours?
agreed! my traffic increased too
i like blogs best as it has comments. more lively
ahhhhhhh great tips too bad im on blogspot and i cant active those notify things in my blog!!!!!!!! but yea i find it that most of the time when follow up come through i take another look at the blog!!!!!
Maybe you should consider using wordpress.
All good points. I like the “Reply to this comment” like you have working here.
This is the threaded comment plugin. It’s easy to install.
You have a great blog here. Like the I follow image you have on the sidebar? Is it possible to have that on my blog as well?
Thanks
Eugene
Of course you can have it in your blog too. But don’t link it directly. Save the image to your computer. Then upload it to your hosting server or any free image hosting provider and link it from there into your blog.
Changing the common “comment here” was the first thing i did when i conceptualised my new design.
Ic. You’ve changed to “# guys talked” . This is not friendly enough and abit of gender bias. How about the girls?
Ok. Just pulling your legs. Hope you don’t mind.
hehe it was meant to be a generic term.
Excellent advice!
So did you follow any of those advice?
thank you. added it on my site.
Good!
Great post — and lotsa traffic comin’ your way, too. Congrats!
Yeah…my comments increases too!
Hi, found your site on the blog catalog site. Glad to see you use the no follow plugin
I’m doing the same thing with my own blog. It’s like being part of an elite group
Feel free to make a comment on my own blog.

I enjoyed the read. I wish you had a Movable Type blog to help me. I think your approach to comments is the right way to build a community.
It’s an approach use by many probloggers. Cheers.
