Malaysian version of Digg

Digg.com.myJust went to website hopping. Stumble upon a Malaysian version of Digg. Have you seen Digg.com.my? I was pretty surprised that Digg.com.my is exactly the same as Digg.com. Lets see what Digg.com.my can do.

What is Digg / Digg.com.my ?

Digg is a news website with an emphasis on technology and science articles. It combines social bookmarking, blogging, and syndication with a form of non-hierarchical, democratic editorial control. News stories and websites are submitted by users, and then promoted to the front page through a user-based ranking system. This differs from the hierarchical editorial system that many other news sites employ. Whilst the original Digg is more focusing on tech & science (mainly USA), Digg.com.my has similar concept to it however its content may differ and is more focusing towards local Malaysian content and Malaysian activities on the net. Note that we are not trying to compete with the original Digg however we are just making content for local hot news.

How does it function?

Readers can view all of the stories that have been submitted by fellow users in the “digg all” section of the site. Once a story has received enough “diggs”, depending on the calculations performed by Digg’s algorithm, it appears on Digg’s front page. Should the story not receive enough diggs, or if enough users make use of the problem report feature to point out issues with the submission, the story will remain in the “digg news pool” area, where it may eventually be removed.

Articles are short summaries of stories on other websites with links to the stories, and provisions for readers to comment on the story. All content and access to the site is free, but registration is compulsory for certain elements, such as promoting (”digging”) stories, submitting stories and commenting on stories.

How to submit stories

Submitting stories is easy. Once you’ve registered and signed in, simply click on ’submit a story’ and enter the URL of the story you would like to submit. Then fill out a title, description, and category for the story. Should you encounter a potential duplicate, please digg the original story and do not submit a duplicate entry.

Once you preview your post and confirm everything is ok spelling etc. post the digg. Then you can start digging other peoples stories or your own story once.

Digging in the News Pool

In the news pool you will see all other posts from other users. You can click on each link and read about each article and if you find the article interesting and relevant you should digg it ! The more digg a news gets the better chance of it to be promoted in the frontpage.

Commenting Digg

You can comment on each news that is posted by the digg users. Users Comment in digg is usefull to determind the credibility of an article or how far a personal opinion goes about a certain topics. We encourage users to comment on digg posts.

via [digg.com.my]

Well, it’s always good when there’s another avenue for Malaysian bloggers to submit their articles to. However, I’m not very sure whether Digg.com.my has the permission from Digg.com to operate in Malaysian context.

What do you think? Do you have any news on this? Please comment here.

yup. but he created it before he works in adverlets.com. one good thing is that he coded it from scratch instead of using open source digg-like script (such as pligg).

 I’m not really sure about it. Anyone has more info? Otherwise, let us contact digg.com themselves.

Digg owns the copyright and will have to press charges on this bugger… otherwise, Digg will lose its legal rights to the word.

I think they might want to press charges - but US isn’t exactly well liked in M’sia. I suspect the M’sian authorities would drag their feet on this matter - and Americans can’t spend money to grease the legal process.

So quite screwed…
