WUSB - Connect Wirelessly

Computers cables has been reduced quite a bit since the day personal computers are first introduced. Well, you can forget about cables in the near future. You’ll be able to connect devices to PC wireless! According to latest research from In-Stat, wireless USB, WUSB, will be the way to connect gadgets to your PC by 2008.

Ultrawideband technology, the short wave radio, is the technology behind the wireless connection for the devices. This wireless variant connections works exactly the same way USB cables does. I believe this is going to revolutionized how commercial devices connect to PC although some of the devices are already capable of wireless connection via bluetooth.

Quoted from Mr. Brian O’Rourke, an analyst at In-Stat:

“Certified WUSB is designed to replace USB cables on the PC desktop, as well as to facilitate temporary connections between mobile and fixed devices, such as portable digital audio players and PCs, or digital still cameras and printers,”

Some devices already exist, but hubs and other connection kit will be available commercially later in the year. In-Stat reckons there’s plenty of potential in the market. Over two billion wired USB devices shipped last year, and it expects Wireless USB to grow by over 10 per cent annually.

WUSB devices are expected to ship in mid-2007 worldwide. However, one of the first WUSB hubs became available in Japan back in March.

So make sure you check out your nearest computer stores at that time to buy them.
