M1 has just launch a new service to enable parents to restrict in order to protect their children from speaking to strangers. Claimed to be first of its kind in the world, M1 KidSafe allows parents to regulate and monitor their child’s mobile communications. By creating a ’safe list’ of vetted family members and trusted friends, KidSAFE dramatically reduces the risk of strangers contacting your child. In addition, KidSAFE also limits potential spending by your child on non-essential voice, SMS and data usage.

Here are the key features:

1. Allows parents to program up to 40 phone numbers that their children can make and receive calls from
2. Allows parents to monitor unauthorised calls and SMS sent or received by listing the date and time of the 10 most recently blocked numbers.
3. Parents can also choose to be alerted via SMS when the KidSafe SIM card is taken out and used in another mobile phone
4. KidSAFE program and features can only be changed with a 6-digit PIN

Personally, I think that this service is a very good offering and would attract a group of parents to switch or apply to use this service. But on the other hand, it can be quite annoying to their kids. I would be annoyed if my parents subscribe that to monitor me! What do you think?

What exactly is the Canonical Tag? Well me explain.

Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft announced today a joint effort to help reduce duplicate content. Well, as you may already knew, duplicate contents has caused major headaches for search engines. These three major search engines came together, a rare get together, to allow users to point out their preferred version of a URL.

Here’s a senario. Websites containing a lot of content such as a retail site and blogging platform such as Wordpress, always creates with several URLs for each page. This makes it difficult for search engines to crawl. Well, many websites are penalized by the search engines from time to time for creating too many duplicate content.

Hackers tricking online users to download virus with FAKE “SAMAN”



Creativity is at its best. Hackers are really a group of people who think out of the box. Their ability to identify and target careless online users’ weakness is pretty amazing.

Hackers is tricking online users to download virus by claiming they have pictures of your car parked illegally. Then you’ll be directed to a fraudulent website. Please watch out.

Online user should always watch their activities carefully. Always have a clear mind whenever you are receiving any threats and offer. One must protect their internet security always to prevent falling prey to such things.

By the way, this has not happen in Singapore or Malaysia. This region doesn’t have hackers, i wonder?

iPhone & iPod Touch Firmware 2.2.1 update



Haven’t been using my iPod Touch for quite awhile. Just plugged it into my laptop and found out that Apple has just released a new firmware for iPhone & iPod Touch. This is the 2.2.1 firmware.

Well, according to sources and rumours, this latest firmware update was only meant to “improve general stability of Safari” and a fix for saved Mail images do not display correctly in the Camera Roll. However, there is still no copy and paste functionality. Steve Job must be too sick to instruct Apple’s developers to include that in! Because as far I know, copy and paste can be implemented on iPhone & iPod Touch but Apple wouldn’t allow it.

Another rumours which says that this update would include push notification, also being mentioned by Steve Job that it would be ready in September 2008. Well take a look at  this video:

Steve Job said in an email “We’re running a bit late. We want to get it 100% right the first time.”

Well, for those iPhone user who had jailbroken or pawned theirs would have to put the update on hold. Please read this and this before you do your update.

Jolicloud the iPhone-like Next Generation Netbook Operating System



Netbooks are selling like hotcakes nowadays. However, there’s one inovative person thought that the current OS  for netbooks aren’t good enough. Reason? Netbook’s small keyboards, small screen and underpowered hardwares restricts the user experience of it.

Netvibes founder, Tariq Krim is building a new stack of software codenamed Jolicloud. Installation of Jolicloud into the netbooks will replace any operating system that is installed on the netbook with a stripped down Linux operating system and custom browser.

Interestingly, Jolicloud is an iPhone-like interface targeting to give users a better user experience. It has large icons and small hardware resource usage to maximize the  potential of netbooks. Jolicloud will support touch screen too. Great stuff for easy navigation given netbooks small screens.

Virus attacks Microsoft Operating Systems



It was reported that currently there are close to 9 million PCs, mainly in companies networks, being infected by a virus in Asia, Europe and the U.S. This virus attacking Microsoft operating systems is believed to be a form a digital hijacking has been spreading rapidly through corporate networks, according to F-Secure.

Fortunately, this virus which is exploiting Microsoft operating systems loop-holes or bugs, is not working as intended by the original designer of the virus. The virus’s coding appears to alert computer users to bogus infections in their PCs and in turn offer to sell antivirus softwares to them. One thing to note is that a number of variants of the virus started to appear.

Microsoft said the virus is spreading by gaining access to one computer and then guessing at passwords of other users in the same network: “If the password is weak, it may succeed.”

Last Tuesday, Microsoft has issued a security patch to tackle the loop hole that this virus is attacking. Please be warned that the virus also disable the automatic Windows update. Kindly do a manual update to protect yourself.
